Why be a mentee?

Many young people feel uncertain as they navigate their educational and career paths. Our mentors are here to provide personalized guidance, working closely with you to understand your goals and learning style and helping you find a clear path to your career.

We also offer group activities designed to help you connect with other students and mentors while developing essential career skills. Our weekly topics include networking, resume reviews, interview preparation, giving and receiving feedback, managing difficult professional conversations, and more!

Together, we will also explore important topics, such as mental health and resiliency, sharing struggles we face, and what it means to be AANHPI in today’s professional environment. We’ll dive into our various cultures, celebrate our diverse backgrounds, and build community.

We hope all participants in our program leave not only with a stronger foundation for their career but also as a committed ally, ready to contribute to a more inclusive workplace for future generations.

Mentee eligibility

✅ Based in NYC

✅ All currently enrolled undergrads encouraged to apply, though freshmen and sophomores may get the most value from the programming.

"I feel more motivated and confident not only in what I want for my future, but in reaching out to other professionals and building my network."

Time commitments

  • Weekly: 1-1 flexible meetings between mentors and mentees

  • Monthly: Every other month, in-person group meeting

  • Monthly: Every other month, virtual meeting for mentees only

Overall, mentees can expect ~7 hrs/month of commitment.

Mentors can expect ~6hrs/month of commitment.

Each pair is expected to meet weekly at a mutually convenient time virtually or in-person. Mentees are expected to come prepared with questions and topics to discuss, while mentors are encouraged to share their own perspectives to help students build confidence and work towards their goals.

In addition to your one-on-one meetings, we will hold in-person gatherings every other month to encourage connections and networking between all the program members. These events will feature workshops that help everyone get to know each other, encourage people to share their stories, and build important job skills that everyone can benefit from. Dinner will be catered for each of these gatherings!

For mentees only, we have virtual sessions that focus on essential career topics such as networking, resume writing, championing diversity, managing difficult conversations, and building resiliency. Led by volunteers from Patina (not your individual mentor), these discussions are designed to help you develop transferable skills for any industry.
