Recruitment & Pairing
Applicants will do a short call with one of our team members to get to know your goals, background, and preferences. We can't guarantee your match will be a specific industry or have certain shared experiences, but we will pair you with the person who can best help you with your specific goals.
To help people get to know each other and build connections before the program, we are holding a few events to get to know our program, hear from alumni, and meet other prospective mentors and mentees.
RSVP on Luma and meet your potential new mentor and mentee!
Mentor/Mentee Weekly Meeting
College undergrads will be paired 1:1 with a young professional for 10 weeks, and expected to meet weekly. Meetings are flexible, and can be virtual or in-person at any time agreed upon.
Mentees are expected to take initiative to reach out to their mentors and work around their mentor's schedules. As the pairings are 1:1, the pair can discuss whatever seems most useful to the mentee. We also provide weekly topics and resources for inspiration.
In-Person Networking and Workshops
In addition to the 1:1 meetings, Patina runs in-person workshops relevant to the themes of that week. Participants are expected to attend at least 3/5 of these events.
These events will feature workshops that help everyone get to know each other, encourage people to share their stories, and build important job skills that everyone can benefit from.
Events will be from 6-8pm at Pier 57:
- Week 1: Sept 18th, Fri - Program Kickoff & Networking 101
- Week 3: Sept 28rd, Mon - Resumes & Mock Interviews
- Week 5: Oct 16th, Fri - Self Advocacy, Feedback, & Negotiation
- Week 7: Oct 25th, Sun - Teamwork & Allyship
- Week 10: Nov 19th, Thu - Closing Celebration!
Dinner will be provided!
Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of topics will we focus on?
We provide resources for pairs to discuss important career skills like networking, interviews, and self-advocacy and also deeper topics like leadership, teamwork, allyship, and AANHPI identity. However, it is up to the mentor/mentee pair to decide whether to use our discussion topics or customize the sessions to the student's needs.
What if I can't attend all the events?
Our in-person workshops are designed to foster connection within the cohort and spark interesting conversations about career relevant topics. Plus food! But if you can't make it, no problem. Just let us and your mentor/mentee know ahead of time.
What makes Patina's mentorship program different from other mentorship programs?
In addition to the mentorship cohort, joining Patina welcomes you into a supportive community that values genuine, close-knit relationships. We often hold small group dinners and casual hobby groups to help foster friendships, not just professional connection.
