Eligibility

  • Open to students of all backgrounds who demonstrate a commitment to Patina Network’s mission of empowering and supporting Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) women.

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in or accepted to an undergraduate program at an accredited post-secondary institution (college, university, or trade school) in the United States.

  • Applicants must be based in New York State or New Jersey (attending a school located in New York State or having a home address in New York State).

  • Demonstrate financial need.

  • U.S. Citizens, DACA recipients, and permanent residents are eligible; international students are not eligible at this time.

Application Requirements

  1. Personal Statement: Submit an essay addressing one or both of the following (500 word limit total):

  • Please elaborate on how your financial circumstances and/or identity has impacted you, your values, and how you want to positively impact our target community?

  • How have you demonstrated your commitment to advocacy, leadership, or community service initiatives that support AANHPI women?

  1. Financial Need Statement: Please provide your FAFSA-provided SAI number. Optional written statement expressing financial circumstances is also welcome (150 word limit).

  1. Letter of Recommendation: Academic or Community Recommendation: A letter from a teacher, mentor, or community leader who can speak to the applicant’s dedication to advocacy and leadership (250 word limit).

  1. Unofficial or Official Transcript

Evaluation Metrics

To ensure equity, the selection committee will assess applications holistically, considering applicants’ personal experiences, impact, and financial need. The selection criteria include:

  • Financial Need (40%): Evaluated through a self-reported financial statement and FAFSA documentation.

  • Scholastic Achievement (20%): Based on GPA and academic performance.

  • Personal Statement (20%): Evaluation of clarity, impact, and commitment to advocacy.

  • Recommendation Letter (10%) : Strength and relevance of recommendation letters.

  • Extracurricular Activities (10%): Depth of community engagement and leadership.

  • Extenuating Circumstances (+5%): Potential additional considerations may be made for extraordinary hardships or overcoming significant challenges..
